The most common grasses here are St. Augustine and Bermuda grass.
February 15th – March 1st – Pre-Emergent
We apply pre-emergent herbicide for grassy and broad leaf weeds.
*Prices starting at $50/application for a typical sized lot in Arlington, Texas.
March 15th – April 15th – Fertilize
We apply your first application of fertilizer. This would be when most of your grass is green and after the last frost in Arlington, Texas.
Normally, you would apply pre-emergent for grassy weeds at this time as well. A lot of times, the product we use for broad leaf weeds also handles the grasses, so we tend to skip this step.
*Prices starting at $35/application for a typical sized lot in Arlington, Texas.
May 1st – June 15th – Fertilize
We apply another round of fertilizer. This is typically 10-12 weeks from your last application, being very careful not to apply when the temperature is about 90 degrees in Arlington, TX. As always, you will want to check the back of your bag for any additional application guidelines.
*Prices starting at $35/application for a typical sized lot in Arlington, Texas.
June 15th – July 15th – Grub Control
We apply grub control to help combat the population of grub worms in your yard. While grub worms do not necessarily harm your yard, they are the primary food source for moles and gophers. To help avoid moles moving into your yard and tunneling through, you will need to cut off their food source. Moles typically tunnel through and eat off the bottoms of the roots to your plants. A lot of times, this will kill your grass, so we do a little preventative maintenance to help avoid any issues with moles and gophers ahead of time.
*Prices starting at $50/application for a typical sized lot in Arlington, Texas.
September 1st – September 15th – Pre-Emergent & Fertilization
We apply another round of pre-emergent herbicide for grassy and broad leaf weeds during this time. This helps with the come up in the next Spring time. This will also be the last application of fertilizer feeding for the year. It would be best to lay the applications during the day when the temperature is below 95 and the night time temperature is in the mid to high 60’s. You never really know what will be happening in Texas though.
*Prices starting at $35/application for a typical sized lot in Arlington, Texas for fertilization and $50 for pre-emergent.
November 1st – November 15th – Pre-Emergent for Grassy Weeds
This is really on an as needed basis. The pre-emergent we typically use should take care of the broad leaf weeds as well as the grasses, so a lot of times, this application is optional or on an “as-needed” basis.
Our current offerings for Pre-Emergents, Fertilizers, & Grub Control at Handsome Lawn Service.
K-8 Lawn (15-5-10)
A 15-5-10 Blend with six added nutrients (Magnesium, Sulfur, Copper, Iron, Manganese and Zinc), K-8 is perfect for St. Augustine, Bermuda, Blue Grass, Buffalo and other lawn grasses.
Apply a 40 lb. bag of K-8 per 5,000 square feet of lawn. Use it early in the spring when grass first starts to green, and repeat throughout the summer months if grass starts to lose green appearance. Fall applications are also recommended. Do not apply to wet grass. Water soon after fertilizing.
Research has shown that using sulfur, iron, and zinc on a well fertilized lawn can reduce the amount of nitrogen needed to maintain green grass by 10 to 15 percent, thereby reducing the amount of vegetative growth. Reducing nitrogen levels, mowing frequency can be extended and thatch build-up reduced.
